Women's Scholastic Exchange was established in 2006 to help Russian orphan girls who have completed their high school education in Russia and then are released from the orphanages.
These girls need to be taught a job skill and find a way to get a job in Russia so they don't end up on the streets, or worse. WSE's mission is to bring the girls to the United States, teach them English, teach them compu- ter literacy and other job skills or trades.

After their release from state orphanages, 40 percent of former Russian orphans will become addicted to drugs or alcohol;
40 percent will be recruited into lives of crime; 10 percent will commit suicide. (Statistics are from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, Russian Life Magazine and the Russian Journal.)
